August... a month of new beginnings

August
The light table was introduced this morning and a big hit!  The girls sorted by color!
Michael was intrigued with creating 3D shapes!

Our first two sight words: I, can.  We each created our own, "I can..." sentences.  Some drew illustrations while other labeled their pictures and spelled words!  We are a talened class from being able to do; gymnastics, roller blade, ride a bike, swing on a swing, and dive from a diving board!

Our favorite time of day is exploration
time in the morning and learning to document.

We enjoyed creating our faces as we have been learning all about ourselves.

How many boys and girls are in our class?
23 kids
14 boys and 9 girls

What color are our eyes? We loved using wiggly eyes!

We LOVED having the opportunity to hold and touch Izzy our gecko.  We were excited and nervous all at the same time! We laughed and especially noticed how "sticky" the gecko felt.  We enjoy observing the aquarium and watching Izzy and Roise eat crickets!

The first week of school the children were excited to explore in our outdoor learning environment. We were introduced to our science observation notebooks.  Some of us were sketching, others added labels, while some used words with their drawings.

"We listened to the book, It Looked Like Spilt Milk."  I am looking at the clouds."-Isaiah

"We saw some ants crawling around on the mulch." -Lexi.
"I know that is a scale and it weighs things!"-Josh

Drew stated, "I saw tomatoes growing, some were red and others were green and orange."

Parents wrote their hopes and dreams for their child
when they attended Meet the Teacher Night.

Our class created some expectations for our room.  We use this visual as a reminder to do our personal best in and out of the classroom.

Beautiful Stuff

BEAUTIFUL STUFF

Day 1
What do you do with 23 bags of recycled
"beautiful" materials from your families?

Day 1:  Choosing our favorite item to share with the class.

"Flowers.... I wonder what we can use these for?"
"This is some kind of fabric.
There are different colors and they feel different too." -Noah

Day 2
Today we were with partners.  We sorted both of our materials and then had some time to see what we could make and create with our new found materials.

Day 3

We divided into three groups.  Each group emptied their bags into large piles.  It was time to get serious with our sorting!  Most choose to sort by materials.  Finally we ended by combining all large three groups into one large class sort.  It looked like a tornado hit room 6 but learning was occuring and so was some fun!

Day 4

Students choose a letter of the alphabet to create.
We used lots of fine motor skills to attach all of our materials!

Day 5

The finished product!  The children created
beautiful work that will be a resourse all year!
